How much milk should a 17mo drink?

Is there some kind of recommended minimum amount? Ds2 has given up drinking milk so I want to try and give him what he needs by other methods.

He eats a yoghurt each day and some cheese.

I think it's a pint isn't it. that's from all sources, cheese, milk youghurt etc.

My 19 mo has 3 bottle a day of cows milk one with breakfast, one in the afternoon and a warm one before bed. She has youghurts daily and cheese 3 times a week.

What about flavouring the milk or making a milkshake with the addition of some banana and icecream whizzed in a blender. Or custard for pudding; and I think you can add milk when making a jelly if he likes that sort of thing.

He will drink milkshake. I was in two minds as to whether milk+sugar was better or worse than no milk. Mind you, alternatives such as custard, ice-cream, are going to involve sugar.

He doesn't like jelly, blancmange, or other wobbly puddings.

He will have milk on cereal, which is something. I've been giving him oatibix which soak up an incredible amount of milk (goodness knows what they do to one's insides).

Well, I'd go for a milk + sugar combo if you're really worried. If you make custard, the proportion is 1-2 tablespoons sugar in a pint of milk, so when you scale that down to the portion DS will actually eat it isn't too bad. A homemade milkshake with fresh banana and some vanilla icecream in the milk needs no additional sugar.

Yogurt and cheese are concentrated, so contain quite a bit of calcium. If DS has milk on cereal daily there's probably no need to worry.

from 1 year the recommended minimum drops to 350mls or around 12oz. Your lo sounds like he does ok if he has milk with cereal, yoghurt and cheese.
