dressing/changing a battleground (8 months)

DD is just 8 months, and very keen on rolling and crawling. It's becoming virtually impossible to change/dress her - I lie her down and she immediately flips onto her front and tries to crawl away. The only method that's guaranteed is sitting on the floor with her head held between my feet as trying to hold her legs doesn't work, I don't want to hurt her when she hoicks away.

Any ideas for games/ ways to entertain her and stop the crawling away? I wouldn't mind her going without clothes but she really does need to be wearing a nappy. And has tried to fling herself off the changing table one too many times for comfort!

First of all ditch the changing table - too dangerous now that she is very quick

I like the idea of wedging her between your legs - that sounds very effective

You can find a gadget, a remote without batteries or a bunch of old keys for eg, for her to hold only at nappy/getting dressed time

yeah, once they learn to walk, they're running away rather than crawling away!

Definitely change her on the floor. "Magic trousers" worked for DS at this age. I'd lie him down, take trousers off and fling them over his head saying that they were magic flying trousers . Well, it worked! He's always liked having things (soft things obviously!) droppped on him, so dropping a toy or muslin onto his head while he was lying down was a fun game.

Once he could stand reliably, even holding onto a chair or something, dressing became easier.

Will try trousers/mus over her face - she likes peekaboo so might be enough to distract her for a moment. I ended up holding a rattle in my mouth and shaking my head back and forth last night to try and get her to stay still long enough for her nappy

oh and definitely will decamp to the floor!

I sing to my DS - this migt be a better tip for when she's a bit older, but he tells me which song he wants and he knows I'll sing it if he lies still for a nappy change.

Definately singing works everytime, I always sing 1,2,3,4,5, once I caught a fish alive etc.
