When do dc's learn about percentages typically?

Ok ds came out with a corker of an excus the other night for not going to bed

"I am only 80% tired so i am not tired enough to go to sleep yet so i cant go to bed"

10/10 for originality but it left me wondering where he might have picked up either a phrase or the concept of percentages. He is bright but i have no idea where he got this from.

SO the question is when do they generally learn about percentages? Is this something i should have expected him to have known about

evidence exists that most adults don't even understand percentages, in my industry we have to accomodate this in our communications

Yes but he is 4 1/2 how does he know this stuff? I havent taught him it - been very careful not to so where and how and should he know this stuff?

Perhaps he got it from the TV.

DS has done percentages in school this year - age 7-8.

Are you sure you don't talk about percentages when out shopping? You don't have to sit down and teach kids for them to just learn what is around them.

Not as far as I am aware. Was wondering is the weird world of numberjacks has heading down this route recently. But havent stayed long enough to find out. Ds is at that age where i can stick cbeebies on and grab 5 mins get on with jobs.
