Is it common for toddlers to go through a slightly OCD phase about the slightest bit of dirt/mud/water etc?

Yes, that's normal.

Yup. Mine will happily coat himself from head to foot in mud, sand, chocolate and grass cuttings, usually at the same time, but any speck of dirt on his hands is a major trauma.

Yep, Dd is still like that at 3.5yo.

Ds however, doesn't care, the muckier the better for him

My 3.3yo DS does not like his hands to be dirty - he will shout "WIPE IT WIPE IT" over and over!

They are sooo unpredictable!
