Have had to resort to bribing DS to get him in the car for nursery - help please!

DS has been going through a phase of crying on nursery days that he doesn't want to go to nursery.

When he gets there, he is fine and when I pick him up, he's all happy and full of what he has done for the day. I genuinely believe he is happy there and all the staff are lovely

In desperation one morning, DH and I told him if he got in the car, he could have a biscuit - and guess what, it seems to be learning towards the norm now.

I'm not happy with this as I don't want him having the sugar or learning that if he refuses to do something, he will get a treat...

Any advice required? Its so hard to cope with a full on screaming toddler when you have time constraints

Unfortunatley I think you have two choices. Either carry on with the biscuit for an easy life, or its going to take a week or so of dealing with a screaming child to get him back out of the habit! I did exactly the same as you with my daughter, bribing with food for everything! I ended up starting a sticker chart, and her challenge was to climb into her car seat by herself. Then if she managed it she got a sticker to wear to nursery and show her teacher how grown up she has been. Then when she did a whole week she got a sun lolly (no calories or additives-clever )Worked a treat at 2 1/2. Maybe try that?
