Early Teething

My 3 month old DS appears to be teething. It is his bottom left tooth, but it appears to be coming out of the side rather than the top. It is a large white area on the side of the gum rather than visible from the top. Is it normal to look like that? the other question is if they have early teeth - do they generally wean earlier? Any advice from other mums would help.

Sorry - his bottom right tooth to the side of the two front teeth.

Could be teeth, sounds very like it.

My dad was born with teeth, my DH had four teeth when he was four weeks old, but DS didn't get any till he was about 5 months old.

Early teething doesn't mean they need solids any earlier.

Sounds like it. My DD started teething at 4 months, with the first teeth fully through at 5. It was pretty much as you describe.

I wouldn't start weaning earlier though - weaning has nothing to do with teeth (after all the gums they chomp on are teeth free for months yet!).

my baby has teeth coming in now at 3 months and seems distressed a lot of the time - any tips?

Ds2 has the same at 4 months and now at 7 nearly 8 months there is still nothing!!!

Teething is such a long slow thankless process!

teeth don;t affect weaning time at all. just lets them bite you more painfully during a feed till they learn not to.
Ds sprang 1st tooth at 4 m/o . I wouldn't worry about "where" you are seeing white at teh mo. wait till it cuts through and chances are that'll be just were it should. D teeth are nearer the front of his mouth than I expected before they came not on teh ridge of the gum at all. Could that be what your meaning?

ds had his first tooth at 4 months started teething 3 months arrhhh. Anbesol worked a treat. Hopefully some pearly whites will start showing soon. Agree too that weaning doesn't need to start earlier eitherxx

my daughter weaned earlier and was teething at 3 months. Some think it is a sign that they need food sooner. I wasn't ready at all when she teethed and didn't really know what to do as she was so young at the time - chamomilla in milk crushed is good and a regrigerated weaning spoon is ideal. I discovered this all at the end - hadn't got to the chapter on teething and she couldn't hold a teething ring.

my baby is 4 1/2 months old, i think he is teething he dribbles chomps cheeks bit rosey and is a bit irratable. do you think he is teething and is there anything you can suggest to ease the pain

There S a special BOnjela for teething babies. I got it at Boots in the section with other babys stuff (not next to ordinary bonjela)

It comes with a teething ring that DD loves, and you can put it in the freezer I think to help more with the pain.

DS got his first tooth at 19 weeks but had been teething for a good while before that. Now at 8 mo he has 6 teeth. Good things: bonjela, teething powders (ashton and parsons or teethas from Boots), teething beads, frozen teething keys and when it is really bad at night - calprofen. But it's a nightmare. I am not looking forward to the molars at all!
