Ok so I BF for 8 months and moved to Aptamil which I ahve been happy with, have just bought the growing up milk as DD is over 12 months and ahve to say I don't like it. Its smells very sweet and has vanilla in the ingredients list - why????

So what do you DC have???

Is it just this brnad or do all the follow on milks have something sweet added to make the children want it???

thanks folks

Cows milk is fine, follow on milks are a bit of a con.

both my lo's went on to full fat cows milk from 1 year - no need for formula, growing up milk as they should get their nutrients from their solids.

Another one here whose DS went straight to cows milk (fullfat of course). No need for the followon milk that I can see. They seem to sell it as being high in nutrients like iron, but if they're eating even reasonably well I don't see any need.

Full fat cows milk.

I startde giving my ds full fat cows milk at 12 months and he is fine. I still give him stage 2 formula at bedtime though on the advice if my hv, though I think he eats enough during the day to not need it.

Another vote for full fat cows milk here - DD went straight onto that at 12 months & DS will too.

supagirl · 06/06/2009 14:34

DD is 1 and will be going onto ff cows milk when we have finished the tin of formula we are currently using.

I think the 'growing milk' is a huge con. Any other milk 0 cow's, soya or whatever - is fine after the age of 1 yr. No need for gimmicky (expensive) formula milks.

Could add omega-3 drops to cows milk once a day if you really want to buy into the follow-on milk thing, but I wouldn't be faffing with formula for any longer than I have to!
