My 18 month toddler has been hideously clingy for 9 months now. HELP! Starting to think he will be like this for the next 30 years!!

And I am totally knackered from carrying him around all the time. If I don't pick him up when he wants he has a complete melt down. My back hurts, my shoulders are buggered, he weighs 2 stone fgs. In his defence he had a really nasty tummy bug a couple of weeks ago and hasnt been very chipper since so is currently really droopy and needy...but I have to say, he isn't THAT much better when he is well. Just wants mummy. He drives me mad...DC1 is sooo not like that and I never ever thought I would have a clingy child. Is it usual to still be so clingy at this age...? I am hoping it will change at some point soon...? Any words of reassuramce would be lovely!

At one point I wished I could have unscrewed my own little finger and handed it to DD1 as she never seemed to let go of it when we were out and about . Now she's 3 and normally will happily go off and play by herself, but she is still fairly reserved in new situations. The best advice I got is that you can't make a shy child an extrovert and vice versa so embrace them the way they are.

He'll stop being clingy when he's ready. In the meanwhile just enjoy the cuddles - you'll be begging for them in a few years and he'll be off playing footy or something.
