Just went to shops with DD1 and 2, aged 6 and 4. Before we went I said, we're just going for some new school shows and to get some milk and a few basics. Got measured for school shoes, let little one get measured too even tho she didn't need any. Went to cafe and let them have a drink and cake. Asked them not to run around in shop while I got a few things, prepared them and made sure they understood. Of course, they run around and giggle while I helplessly try to control them. Try to get them involved. Would you like these? can you get me the tomatoes etc. They just giggle and run off. I chase around harassed, and yes I do care what other people think. I look a complete idiot. Stop them several times and remind them. None of it does any good. Pay and get out.

Where am I going wrong?

I'd say it's the cake and drink stop that did you in. Could that be a treat saved for last?

Well if you find out where you are going wrong let me know because mine are EXACTLY the same. DD is 6 and DS is 4 next week and they drive me potty when out in shops. DD starts it all off by making silly noises or pretending to be a monster which kicks DS off into an excited frenzy. Then I've had it, theres no controlling them except for putting on my fishwife's hat and shouting at them....but like you I do care what other people think so I tend to get out asap.

Have got to get my cartax tomorrow in the local post office so there will be of course by a long queue which will wind DS up as he doesn't 'do' waiting.....give me strength...

Nice to know I am not alone though
