Fussy eating after having a tummy bug

My 22 month old dd has just recovered from a very mild tummy bug and has now decided that she will not eat any of the food she normally loves. I made her cottage pie today, normally a firm favourite, and she had one bite before pushing the bowl away. Tonights supper was met with equal disgust. I finally caved and gave her a HIPP organic ready meal as she hasn't eaten in days and she wolfed the whole thing down. Has anyone else experienced this? Pls tell me she'll go back to eating normally!! She was finally getting to be a really good eater having had quite a slow start!

Well - if I have ever had a tummy bug, it takes me a week or two to go back to a normal diet. My tummy gets very sore and sensitive if I have been sick.

3littlefrogs is right - a tummy bug makes me feel that way too. Perhaps give her a day or two on the HIPP meals and then offer her something else.

I do remember living on mushroom soup and scrambled eggs on toast for a week or more after one particularly nasty bug.

I hope she feels better soon.

thanks, thats what i was thinking but really was a mild one. She was last sick on saturday morning and seems right as rain now. But maybe her tummy is sore. She keeps chewing the sippy cup and fingers, anything really. Could she still be teething??? She has practically all of her teeth but I guess they get bigger right?? She hasn't wanted to eat any biscuits, rice cakes, toast, apple. All normally firm favourites.

Perhaps it seemed mild to you, but maybe the bug and the teething are a bit much for her right now?

Everything is a phase, give it a week or two, don't make a big deal out of it and chances are all will be well.

I hope so! I panic when she doesn't eat. Silly I know but she has never been a great eater and we had recently made really good progress and she was eating really well. Fingers crossed is just a phase.

Mine did the same after a tummy bug. She survived on breadsticks and water for a couple of days and when her appitite returned she decided she would no longer eat toast or sandwiches. It took her about 6/7 weeks to touch a peice of toast and she still won't touch a sandwich 6 months on.

I have read that after a tummy bug they like smoother food so perhaps that's why she liked the jar. Give her a while and her appitite will pick up again - babies won't starve themselves that's for sure.

thanks Hersetta although I am not sure it is the smoother food thing as she wont eat smooth purees that I made her. She has just become even fussier than before and and am really worried that she wont go back to eating like she did before. Today she didn't even eat the jar so am at a complete loss as to what to do. All she has eaten oin 4 days is fruit. Even her favourite baked beans were refused!
