11 mo baby no standing yet

Hi there - does anyone have any advice?

My LO is 11 mo (almost 12 mo actually) and has never shown any interest at all in standing up. She crawls really well, sits, rolls, goes from all-fours to sitting, kneels and sometimes does a kind of "downward facing dog" yoga position IYSWIM. But she's never really fancied standing up. If I pull her to standing she doesn't seem to know what to do with her legs and she definitely has no interest in pulling herself up on furniture.

Is this normal? Should I go and get her checked out in case there is something wrong? She seems very contented crawling about but I am worried here might be some physical reason why she cannot stand up

Thanks so much

I really do think that all babies do things in their own time. Honestly

My niece wasn't crawling until 13 mo and didn't get herself up to sit til after that, let alone walking etc (18 mo)but she is a perfectly mobile, steady 2 year old now.

I say enjoy it while you only have to hare after a crawling child. It will come - honestly!

she sounds like she is doing fine to me. if she still isnt standing in 8/9months then perhaps get her checked out. she is still v v vlittle. dont worry about it i am sure it will come all too soon!!

My DD wasn't standing at 11 months. She only started crawling around then. She has just started walking at 16 months and is very chuffed with herself. Her twin brother was standing well before DD could crawl, and walked at 12 months.

PurpleLostPrincess · 19/05/2009 07:34

My first two DC's were walking by ten months so when DD2 came along I expected the same (stupidly!). She didn't/wouldn't/couldn't stand up on her own until just recently and only just started walking on her own yesterday and she is over 20 months old!!!! I posted the same sort of things about her and spent months trying not to worry about it but I can honestly say it really is worth waiting and she will get there in her own time...

thanks this is very reassuring! I'm looking round at all her friends and they all seem so sturdy on their feet but I guess they all do things when they are ready...

Friend's DD didn't walk until she was 2.5 and she never crawled. There's nothing wrong with her - she just wasn't interested. Once she did get going she progressed really quickly.

Am also finding this v reassuring. My DTs are 15 months and still not walking tho they will walk holding on to my fingers now, just not so keen on letting go. I've been wanting them to walk for ages as a bit more physical independence from them means less back pain for me plus not having to do the whole baby from car to house, fling baby in house, get other baby from car, back to house dash. My friend's son walked at 8 months and in fact just about everyone I know has early or early-ish walkers so was starting to do the whole 'is there something wrong with my DCs' thing, esp as they were prem. As with everything I guess they just do it when they're ready. Novice, your LO sounds pretty physically adept - am LOL at the yoga image - so I'm sure there is nothing to worry about!

My DD is 15mths and has only in the last week started cruising around furniture still holding on.

She was standing at around 13mths I think...

peachsmuggler · 19/05/2009 11:12

I don't think you have anything to worry about. My DD is 14 months and doesn't stand. She bum shuffles and has never crawled. She has just started to pull up oin her knees but won't really take weight on her legs.

They'll get there eventually!

PigeonPair · 19/05/2009 12:43

My almost 11 month old is standing and has been happy to weight-bear since about four months (weird!) but she is NOWHERE NEAR crawling - just happy to sit on her pretty little bottom and demand things from me rather than making the effort to go and get them herself !

helenjune · 21/05/2009 20:26

thanks to everyone on this thread. My twins are 14 months old and have only just started to roll around. One child has figured out how to crawl backwards - but not really with a purpose, the other one just sits and watches her. Neither are interested at all in weight bearing and flatly refuse to put their feet on the floor.
Without sounding stupid can someone please tell me what the abbreviations all mean - eg DC, DD, DC1 etc - I'm really confused

squeaver · 21/05/2009 20:29

I wouldn't worry. DD1 didn't stand or walk til she was 17 months. DS2 is 14 months now and still bottom scooting around. At least you don't have to worry about her running away!!
