Milk feeds in 5 month old

Hi there

I'm all new to this so here goes!

My first born is nearly 5 months old and weighs 18lb 4oz - a big girl

Her milk intake seems to fluctuate daily quite radically! How much milk should she be consuming in 24 hours?

I've just started weaning her - but don't think this is having any affect on the milk.

Thanks!!

Hi linz451 welcome to mumsnet!

I've found www.kellymom.com really useful for questions on feeding.

Her stuff on starting solids is here

As far as I know, it's fine for milk intake to vary daily, and all babies are different in terms of how much they drink. Is your baby BF (breastfed) or FF (formula fed)?

By the way did you know you don't need to start weaning yet? They used to say 4 months, but these days studies have shown it's actually better to wait till about 6 months as their insides aren't ready till then.

Unless your little one is eating so little milk some days you're actually worried she's not getting enough, I'd say just carry on feeding her what she asks for in milk, and worry about weaning in a month or so.
