Hi all,

Ive just joined mumsnet because of the title of my post !
My daughter has suddenly started to stutter quite badly (the last 2 weeks) At first it didnt bother me as it was just as if she wasnt thinking about what she was trying to say but today she looks distressed that she cant say what she wants and has started covering her mouth.
My heart breaks when she does this as i cant bear the thought of her being uncomfortable by this.

I spoke to the health visitor today to ask her oppinion and she said its possible that shes feeling a little anxious about the arrival of her brother (im due in 4 days).
And to not bring any attention to it which i dont but when my hubby came in from work i burst into tears because its so hard to see her like that .
Im desperate for any advice or reasurance, i cant bear the thought of her being picked on when shes older.
HELP !! = (

DS went through a couple of phases of doing this around the same age - I put it down to the part of his brain that thinks of what to say developing a bit faster than the part of the brain that controls the motos muscles in his mouth. In a few weeks (took different amount of times each time it happened) the motor part catches up and the stutter just disappears. It is heartbreaking to watch them struggle, but I ignored it and he doesn't do it at all now. So don't worry too much about it at this stage - it will probably resolve itself fairly soon.

Honestly - this is completely normal. Both my children went through a phase of doing this and I don't think it has anything to do with your pregnancy. Just be patient and let her finish her sentences and don't be tempted to try and speak for her. Good luck x
