What toys are good for a 5-year-old girl?

My daughter started reception in January, and has changed a lot since then. She suddenly seems much more grown up, and is bored with all her toys (mostly animals and little dollies etc that she used to create whole imaginary worlds with).

Her birthday is coming up, so I wonder if anyone can give me some suggestions for good presents for a 5-yr-old?

Have you asked her what she'd like?

I ask because they are all so different, what one loves another will hate.

My niece (now 6) loved anything crafty, so drawing kits, stickers etc and something called Littlest Petshop. She still loves those although you said she's gone off animals.

She says a Baby Alive, but already has an Annabel and a Baby Born. I would consider getting one (I've seen them half price), but I'd like to get her something else that she'll get more play value out of IYSWIM.

I wondered if other people had bought their 5 year old a specific thing that had gone down a storm.

I think she v much wants to be a "schoolgirl", so anything her sis plays with (age 2.5) she has decided is boring.
