My DS7 cannot retract foreskin

My son who is seven cannot retract his foreskin. It hurts when he tries to do so and it is currently itchy. I am going to take him to the doctor but in the meantime, any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Hi my DS is almost 9 and cant retract his foreskin either. I have taken him to the doctors and a surgeon a few months ago and he said it could still go back on its own and he thinks that it probably will.
If its itchy then he probably has an infection, Im not sure if you can buy cream over the counter as mine was prescribed by a doctor. Think its where wee gets trapped underneath the foreskin and can make it sore. My DS used to get this lots but think his foreskin may have loosened slightly in the last few years so he doesnt get infections anymore.
Also I was told not to force the skin back as it can tear and would be very painful for your DS.
Hope this helps and your DS feels better soon.

Keels26 - that's very useful information, thank's very much. Will take him to doctor just to be on the safe side. Any idea at what age the skin does retract? I only ask because I'm sure it used to, but perhaps I am mistaken.

My DS was prescribed some cream by the consultant at the children's hospital (I think it might have been fucidin but I could be making that up) which he had to put on the tip of his penis every night before trying to pull his foreskin back. A few months of that and all was fine again, if it hadn't worked though they said there were other options before they'd go down the circumcision route. Your Doctor will definitely be empathetic, just forewarn your DS that he'll need to show his winky to someone because that was the part my DS freaked at.

Good luck

Ok, as long as it is a common complaint, I shall stop worrying about circumcision for now. Thank you both.

Victoria72 - there have been several threads about this in the last few months Here, Here, and Here that you might want to take a look at.

Our DS2 has severe ballanitis which is infections under the foreskin due to urine beng trapped under there. The hole at the end of the foreskin is very small and cannot be retracted. He is having an operation in a few weeks to either have a circumcision or a small slit put in the forskin so the urine will no longer be trapped and he wil also be able to clean properly as well.

If your DS foreskin is not too 'tight' it may well stretch and right itself over time. Definitley need to talk to a specialist though as it can lead to severe infections and sexual problems later in life.

EvenBetaDad - thank you, I shall have a read later on. Very helpful. Much obliged. V
