Hello,

My 5yo ds is having a gromet op next week. Anyone got any insight? Hospital have been great with preparing him and ds is actually looking forward to it! Wish I felt as well prepared!

I am worried about the General and also not sure what to expect afterwards - except a boy who can hear properly which will be great!

Thank in advance

Jammum - be prepared for the speed at which he will become uncontscious (sp?) was shocked that it was a matter of seconds for DS when he had his tonsils out last month - and their eye's roll back which isn't very nice either.

Hope all goes well.

My DS1 had grommets done at a similar age.

We paced the corridor for the whole time he was having the op. That was definitely the worse bit, I felt sick the whole time. When he came round he was a bit upset but quickly calmed down as soon as saw me. He was a bit groggy to begin with and slept a little bit. Within less an hour he was not only watching TV but listening to it at a normal volume. Even he was amazed that he could hear it By the next day you wouldn't even have known he'd had anything done.

Good luck

My ds1 who is 3 is having his adenoids out and possibly grommets put in next Thursday too.

My DD had grommets when she was almost 4. The worst part was seeing her breathe in the 'magic air' through a mask and then struggling just as she went under - I was in tears! However the op was really quick and she was fine when she came round. We went home the same day and she was running around the garden in the afternoon as if nothing had happened. Her hearing was much better and we had no problems when the grommets came out. She enjoyed the whole hospital experience so much she kept asking if she could go back

Very quick op and very quick recovery. If his hearing has bveen very blocked, he will be surprised at how clear everything is.

Nothing to worry about!

Hi there, dd1 had hers done last July, she was 5 as well.
She was really brave, excited even.
Found the whole hospital thing a total adventure.
Fine when she went under, though I did get a bit tearful for a second or two.
Most susprising thing was how loud she found everything when she came round. She kept holding her ears and telling us all to be quiet!
Totally back to normal by the time we had driven home!
