2year check results

Ds is 2.6 tomorrow and had his 2 year check up yesterday. His Weight has gone from 91st centile to 50th from last year which im not to concerned about as ive assumed thats him losing his baby weight. I am somewhat confused by his height result though. He was around 50th centile for length til from birth to 1 (they havent measured him since) His hieght yesterday is on the 2nd centile. So just above the shaded area. I was sure 50th centile or there abouts was 'normal' I knew ds was small for his age as his dad is quite short but this has come as somewhat of a shock. Is it likely to become a cause for concern with HV if he stays along this centile or dips below it?
TIA

U think the 50th is probably 'average' so by definition, approximately half of children are going to be less than that.

pagwatch · 07/05/2009 11:46

Its not normal height - it is average height at that age. Anything under is not a cause for concern.
As seeline said half of all children measured (or there abouts) will be under.

i did mean average just couldnt think of the word lol. I just wondered really as HV was questioning the height of ds's dad

shelley
It does not matter what the HV thinks. If you are concernewd go and chat to your GP and ask. If you are not concerned then don't worry about it
HVs do have this way of looking concerned/puzzled about something but not actually explaining what they are querying .

Think it was just the initial shock. I knew ds was small (a friends nearly 2yo is slightly taller than ds lol) i just didnt realise that small. He's happy and healthy thats all that matters. Id just rather that when he stops growing hell be my height at least and not his dads lol
