Chewing problems with a 2 year old

My two year old son will not chew or feed himself.

Most of the food I give him has to be soft or mashed up and I have to feed it to him.

My eldest son did not have any problems chewing or feeding himself at that age.

Even the nursery has commented that on the days he stays for lunch he will not eat properly and they expect him to feed himself.

any ideas on how to convince him to chew and feed himself.

just leave him to it??
have you taken him to the GP/dentist to rule anything physical out?

Been to the dentist they don't think there is a problem.

he didn't get his first tooth until he was a year old and then nothing until he was 18 months.

But that still shouldn't stop him from holding a spoon and feeding himself yogurt or cereal.
