I have a lovely happy 15 month old dd.She has always been a good sleeper; until now that is. She was breast fed for a year, would fall asleep at the breast and i would put her in her cot asleep - naughty mummy i know! Well it's payback time now. I know i need to put her to sleep awake. Tried it last night and after some hours i gave up and took her into our bed. I would love to hear from other mums who have cracked a similar problem, perhaps tried the baby whisperer technique. How long did it take? Both my husband and i work so i guess we'll have to take it in turns having sleepless nights for however long it takes for her to send herself to sleep. Knowing from other mums roughly how many nights it took them to solve the problem will make it psychologically easier to get through!
Thanks x

They just need to get used to being put in their cot awake. It should get quicker for them to settle over a short time. My Dd was like yours, but I bit the bullet and left her to cry it out and I think it only took about 4/5 nights for her to just lay down and go to sleep on her own and although it does seem cruel at the time, it's worth it.

My problem after that, was keeping her from waking all through the night, but MN rescued me there

Good luck!

She cried for about half an hour and about halfway I went up so she could see me, but I didn't go in, just talked to her, saying lay down etc. It got less and less and within about 3 days, she took just a few minutes and after that, just laid down and went off!

Put her down awake tonight. She was furious but asleep in 45 mins. I went in 3 times just to reassure her. Fingers crossed it continues! Thanks for the advice

Well done you! it takes strength to leave a screaming baby to go to sleep alone when it's sooo much easier to go in and pick them up I hope you have it licked inside a week.
