Hiya
My son Lincoln is two and a half now and we're trying to potty train. For a long time hes been able to use the potty all day and when he sleeps in his bed he can go all night without a nappy on and with no accidents. But in the day if i try and put little pants and trousers on him as soon as he needs a wee he thinks his pants are a nappy. Before I put his clothes on I always tell him that its not a nappy and to tell me or daddy if he needs a wee and he says yes as if to understand but then does it anyway. Is there anyway to help? Or shall I just give him some more time?
Also, he can quite happily go all day with no nappy as i said and us the potty when ever he needs a wee but if he needs a poo he just does it everywhere except the potty or toilet! He always comes to tell me hes done it but i try and say it needs to be in the potty or toilet and he just laughs and thinks its funny?
Any help would be much appriciated
Luv Erin

I found the thing that helped me best with potty training DD was to ignore and say nothing when she had done something in her pants - i mean say as little as possible and don't give eye contact. Then give lots of attention to the use of the potty/toilet. That way they are reminded which is the good thing and gets attention and fuss and praise.

It sounds as though you are doing the right things it just might take a little while to get sorted. DD took nearly 18 months to get potty training right but got no nappies at night right straight away.

Give him more time, my ds2(2.8) had a hard time getting to grips with pooing on the potty, and even though he was fine doing his wees on it, he still did his poos in his undies, he will get the hang of it soon, keep reminding him throughout the day that he should do poos on the potty, i kept asking my ds constantly 'do you need a poo?' now he says 'my poo is coming' and gets straight on the potty

Gosh, well I am at teh tail end of training my DS - and he is 3.5!! And it's brilliant, we pretty much cracked it in a weekend, though leave the nappy on at night. He has teh occasional accident, especially when running around the park, but he really wasnt ready until now. We tried before, when he was about 3, and no luck at all, he wouldnt go near teh potty. I'd wait, really, you're just making work for yourself..
