I think she is doing it as a bored thing, tends to be when we are having stories or she is in teh car but I woudl like to stop it now before it moves on from the 2 fingers she is concentrating on.
I have cut her nails but she still tries ot bite them so that hasn't really worked. She also sucks her thumb, which I don't mind, so I don't want nasty tasting things if I can help it.

My DS1 bites his nails - he is 4 hehas done it on and off for about a year..... so I will watch with interest?

I have kind of taken the view of it doesn't hurt - so what's the problem? It annoys me but......

Also watching with interest here... DD is a real fidgeter and has been nibbling hers for about six months. Took me ages to notice that I hadn't had to cut her nails for a while. Am trying to be relaxed about it - at least if she's nail biting she's not picking her nose...

I only want to stop it as my dsis bit her nails for years and they looked horrible!

my dd did it when 3 years old for a while i just ignored it and gave her toys to play with. doesnt do it now

JackBauer · 20/04/2009 21:50

Did you tell her to stop when you saw her or just completely ignore it, as she will carry on for ages until I tell her to stop it, and then she does.

I did use the nasty tasting stuff the moment I spotted her doing it. I only had to paint them twice (over 3 days) and she stopped. Could your DD manage without her thumb for a short time? Or you could just leave it off her thumb? It did work really well.

JackBauer · 20/04/2009 22:40

She isn't actually biting her thumb nail so I suppose it might work if it is that fast. Is it ok for this age?

I found one in Boots that was ok from 2, sorry I can't remember the name, but we only have a v small Boots, so should be available elsewhere.
Good luck!
