I would get his ears checked for possible infections. This can be a big reason for head-banging.
That would be my first action, if not, I would possibly speak to my hv

oh he has had a cold recently so could well be ear infection, but he seems to do this for fun

I think all toddlers go through the 'spining' stage. I remember both mine did and my neice. I don't remember any of htem head banging though.

My ds1 (20 months) spins, but atm, only when he sees a helicopter or hears one

SusieDerkins · 20/04/2009 16:27

I was a headbanger until I was 15. Honestly. I used to headbang myself to sleep every night. If I stayed over at a friend's house and therefore couldn't headbang it took me ages to go to sleep. Google it and you'll see it's surprisingly common.

ilovetochat · 20/04/2009 16:29

dd spins all the time and crashes through the house falling over, she doesnt purposefully head bang though.

littleboyblue · 20/04/2009 16:34

Just googled it for you and foundthis

My DS used to bang his head on the wall to get him off to sleep - when he was about 1 or 2. Stopped by the time he was 3- ish I think.

applepudding · 20/04/2009 18:31

He was also very awkward about eating at that age.

thankyou all. I have a tendency for this kind of ' I am a complete nuerotic mother - is this normal'

Thank you for your reassurances
