NO!! I DOOOON'T WANT TO!!!! Argggghhhh!!

Sorry, another thread about 3 year old boys annoying behaviours lol!!

I need some stories from people who are going through/have been in this stage with their 3 year olds.

DS is 4 in June and generally speaking is not too bad (compared to the satanic spell he had been going through up til xmas .
However! When he is asked or told something he is replying most of the time with NOOO I DON'T WANT TO!!

Examples:

DS: Where are we going?
ME: To Sainsburys
DS: NO I DOOON'T WANT TO!!!

Fair enough you say as no kid wants to go to sainsburys. Here are some more...

ME: Would you like to go to the park?
DS: NOOO I DON'T WANT TO!!
ME: Oh ok we'll stay here...
DS: NOOO!!! I WANT TO!!
ME: Ohhhh you dooo want to go?
DS: YES YES I DO!
ME: Shall we walk or take your scooter?
DS: Scooter
ME: OK, here you are then.
DS: NOOOO!! I DON'T WANT TO!! I WANT TO WALK!
ME: OK we will walk then..
DS: NOOOO I WANT TO SCOOTER!!
ME: Here we are then, do you want to go on the slide?
DS: NOOOOO!! I DON'T WANT TO!!

Repeat x 100 every day re everything asked!! He even does it with things he knows he wants/likes!

Todays example:

DS: Can I have an ice cream?
ME: In a minute (we were at a family day out event thing and he had spied an ice cream van)
DS: NOOO!! I DON'T WANT TO!!
ME: Oh ok, no ice cream then.
DS: NOOO! I WANT TO!!
ME: Well lets go round the corner to get an ice cream then.
DS: NOOOO!! I WANT ONE HERE!!
ME: You can have an ice cream but we are buying it from round the corner (50p cheaper lol!!)
DS: NOOO!! I DON'T WANT TO!!
ME: totally ignoring him....

ME: Oh look DS theres a fire engine! (Kids can climb on it etc)
DS: OH WOW! A FIRE ENGINE!!
ME: WOuld you like to go inside?
DS: NO!!!! I DON'T WANT TO!
Me: Oh ok.
DH: Come on DD, we'll go inside
DS: NOOO!!! I WANT TO COME!!
Me: Give me a vodka....
FIREMAN: Is that good fun up there?
DS: NO!!!!
FIREMAN: Would you like to be a fireman when you grow up?
DS: NO! I DON'T WANT TO!!! I want to get down!

Is it a control thing? Yesterday we went tenpin bowling and after everyone else's turn DS would be saying "MY TURN!". When it was his turn however he then shouts "NO! ITS NOT MY TURN!" We say "ok, mummys turn then" and as predicted he says "NO NO NO, MY TURN!"

Now granted DS's speech is behind where its supposed to be but he is not so bad that he can't use other words lol! Also he is very very shy and shows this by being loud and getting boistrous/running around.

Is it just my little man that is doing this? Its so draining!

No advice but I feel your pain!!

My DS is 4 in August and is exactly the same

It has only been going on for the last week or so but driving me up the wall!!

Todays example was he wanted to go up the stairs first but didn't tell me until I was already upstairs so had 20mins of him screaming at the foot of the stairs "I wanted to go first" etc...

Am hoping that as he is back at pre school tomorrow that will tire him out

When they're four it's the same, just a bit more articulate...

Terible two's and three's - f**king fours in this house!!!

Honestly I dispair everyday. All I can say is you are not alone - be clear and consistant. Try not asking questions that he can say yes or no to. You are the boss and he is just testing the boundrys. I hope it gets better for us all.

barmymummy - no advice from me either but you made me laugh!!! I guess something to look forward to! My ds is 17 months and at the moment only screams and shouts. Well back to school with your ds to keep your sanity.
