16 month old started hitting

Hello,

My 16 month old and I went away this weekend and spent 2 days with a very possessive and controlling 4 year old who would not allow my 16 month old to go near her toys or touch anything. My normally very friendly and sociable little girl reacted eventually by smacking the 4 year old and pulling her hair. I must admit that the circumstances were not great and I felt very sad for my duaghter as all weekend she had been controlled.

Just wondered how I should deal with this if it happens again in the future.

Didn't anyone tell the 4yr old that she must share? I would've insisted that my DS had some toys to play with too.

Either way, smacking and hair pulling mustn't be seen to be tolerated so a firm 'No, we don't smack' and removal from the situation is what I would've done. I wouldn't go overboard though as she is only 16mths.
