Baby gets slightly raw chin from rooting, help?

Hello,
My week old baby has taken to his Mum's breast well but when he wants feeding he roots like a fiend, turning his head left and right in search for the breast.
This looks like it has given him a bit of a sore chin. Has anyone else had this and any ideas how to deal with it?

Congratulations on the birth of your son!

As your wife breastfeeds more, then the baby will get better at latching on and hopefully that should help the issue.

Does your wife happen to have lanosah ointment? It's usually used for sore nipples, but you could use it on the baby's sore chin as well.

Thanks for this... I will get some of that ointment today. At the moment he is like a feeding machine... off and on last night (this morning) he seemed to feed from midnight to nearly five in the morning.

I remember the constant night feeds, they are very tiring.
