At what age do children's feet slow down on growing?

My DD is 4 and hasn't needed new shoes since September (well different sized shoes) and my DS who is 2 1/2 is the same.

Is this normal? Does anyone else wonder about these things?

They grow as your child grows, if you look at your forearm, it's the same size as your foot. As they grow, their feet grow in proportion (most of the time) IYSWIM. They won't stop growing until 18 (girls) and 21 (boys) or something like that.

My DS1's feet didn't grow for about a year at that age, I was getting really worried then he seemed to shoot up in height and his feet grew two sizes within a couple of months - so if everything else seems normal, just relax and be glad that you can save your pennies for a bit!!

But it doesn't matter whether they've grown or not - they can still go through the toes (completely) on a pair of school shoes in a term, so you'll be buying new ones even if they are the same size!

Thank you It was the fact that it had been a while and both seem to have put on weight and shot up in height. Perhaps they'll have petite feet instead of great clodhoppers like me.

Thank you

What size are they? Ds (4 in a week) has had a really big growth spurt in foot size over the last 8 months - 2.5 whole shoe sizes... I am hoping it might slow down soon

paranoidmother · 31/03/2009 17:21

DD (4) is size 10 1/2 and DS (2 1/2) is 7 1/2

Bigger feet than their friends

DS' feet slowed down at around the 3 mark and a pair of shoes lasted a whole year (I did go to clarks and get them checked every 2/3 months or so).

You see I have a bit more of a problem in those areas: ds - still not 4 - is already an 11 - and that was at the end of the last holidays. And apart from the lack of any leather on the toe of one shoe, when I prod his toes he's not that far off the end of them anyway....

norfolklass · 31/03/2009 17:58

LOL to original poster...crikey I wish my DS's feet would stop growing!!

He is just 4 (end of feb) and is a 12.5 shoe which is just ridiculous!!

Its so hard to try and get nice young looking shoes (well not young but you know what I mean!) without them looking like canal barges!!

Id be very very pleased if his feet slowed down a bit!

my dd is 6 and been asize 10 for 18months do get her checked regulary, though she is small in general

mistlethrush · 31/03/2009 19:02

Nl - but once they've worn the shoes a few times they do seem to grow into them magically don't they! I think ds is probably a 12 by now too...
