Dummy or thumb?

I took the plunge last night and 'lost' my Dd's (2.5 yrs) last dummy. However, since I removed it she has sucked her thumb; to get to sleep both last night and tonight, when out in the car and during her TV 30 mins earlier. Am I creating a bigger problem by taking the dummy from her? Should I return it and hope the thumb sucking stops or should I just leave her to it? I can't help but feel as though I'm setting myself up for a bigger battle in the future! What would you do?

Well... I think she might be too young to give up the dummy completely. I think thumb is more trouble - you can't lose it and it causes teeth problems. Maybe "find" the dummy but establish rules for using it?

I'm quite strict anyway, normally only at sleep times or if we are going on a long journey. It is left on her pillow until her next snooze. I feel like I'm being weak for not following through on my decision.

The teeth issue is probably what bothers me most, I've always been careful to buy orthadontic soothers....

If she has it only for sleeping and long journeys then I would def stick with the dummy. I sucked my thumb and had horrendous dental bills as a teenager

Thanks for your advice. She may get a surprise on her pillow in the morning

I would go back to the dummy, I have a 12 year old thumb sucker!! but managed to get rid of ds2's dummy when he was 3 .

Stick with the dummy. It can be relegated to the bin sometime in the future. Thumbs are not so easy to throw away!
