What were your children's language skills like at 19 months?

Did they talk? Did they just babble? How many words did they have etc ??

I was talking to someone who was slightly worried about her childs language development skills the other day and for the life of me couldn't remember the norms for this age/stage of development.

I have an 18 month old and he says lots of single words:

'apple', 'daddy', 'mummy', cake , pepper etc but he also does a lot of random babbling which I don't understand. I think boys are slower than girls though!

Cake now thats a word to learn early

The little one is 20 months and can say mama and dada, and attempts her sisters name but thats it - she babbles alot - and has no problems with hearing, understands simple insturctions etc just no words

The average is very wide, info from health visitor is a few words by 18 months (maybe 4-5 words) and wider vocabulary and putting two words together by about 2 yo. But if a child hasn't achieved this it dowsn't mean there's anything wrong. If she is concwerned she should see health visitor.
