think it might have something to do with them being independent!

oh well - just never having kids before you always see the crying kid run to mum

since birth never run to me or dad or wanted cuddles

My ds1 was very much like that. He would cry almost in anger and frustration rather than hurt, and trying to get near him before he'd calmed down would just make it worse. The more he'd hurt himself, the worse he was about letting anyone get near him. It really seemed to be a wounded pride thing and comforting him or trying to find out where he'd hurt himself was drawing attention to the thing that had embarrassed him and he'd rather forget about, hence the increasing fury!!! He was like this from baby/toddlerhood until he was about 4. He's much better at accepting a comforting cuddle these days and not getting cross when he's had an accident - largely, I think, because I told him that they made his Mummy feel better! He'll accept a cuddle and kiss if he can think to himself it's for me and not for him (and of course, I can then get in close to check that he isn't seriously hurt!!!)... A sense of wounded male pride seems to start very early on in life!!!!!
