Quick - help please - DS banged his head and it sounds really sore

DS (1) fell against the corner of the coffee table about 30 mins ago and really banged the side of his head - the top of his ear has a big purple bruise on it with a cut from the corner, and behind the ear on his head there's a lump from the bump. He screamed of course, and I comforted him as best I could.

The bruise on the ear is really purple and looks really sore. The lump is still there but DS is sleeping now (he was already very sleepy). What do I do? Please help. DH working abroad at the moment - mum at work and not sure who to ask.

He seemed quite happy about 15 minutes afterwards - responsive and smiling, but tired. Teething at the moment and MMR tomorrow - will he be all right for the MMR? What do i do?

Am not in the UK at the moment if that makes any difference.

Is there an A&E you can take him to? No one here can really reassure you... if you are worried just take him to be checked out.

All I would suggest is arnica - the stuff is amazing - was given a crash course in it in France where all mums seem to carry it on them permanently, something I now do and dd pops pills for every bang ( there are many - daily!!) The're like little sweet granules that dissolve in their mouths and they make a massive difference - more for future reference now I realise, but am a massive bore on the subject!!!

How is he?

I can second arnica, it really helps prevent the horrible bruising.

A bump is a good sign (rather than a dent). Dd1 wacked her head on the kirb outside school a few weeks ago and had a huge lump on her head, we were advised to keep her awake, keep a close eye on her and if we were worried take her to A&E. We decided not to take her to A&E and she was fine after a hour (just had a ugly lump for a few days).

Quick update - thank you for messages! He seems completely fine and was laughing and his normal little self yesterday afternoon which was a big relief.

Bruise still purple - great idea about the arnica and I think I will get a big vat of it for the inevitable.

Doctor checked him over and said he's ok, so can breathe again.
