Having a major problem with potty training

Hello everybody,

This is the first time that I've ever posted a question or anything like that so I apologise if the etiquette is wrong.

I have two sons aged 8 and 3 years 5 months. My youngest has been potty training since November and we have in the last month cracked the weeing side. He is regularly dry through the night. However, in the last five months he has only done 3 poos on the toilet and one on the potty and that was about a month ago. Its a daily occurrence and he is at day nursery and I think the nurses are getting a little fed up now.

Has anyone else experienced this? I thought bowel control was supposed to come first?

Could this be a symptom of something else? Do I need to take him to the doctors?

Any advice would be much appreciated. Am fed up of cleaning poo off the back of his knees!

HEY TGS

First of all your youngest lol is 5 months. I take it you mean the 3yr old? lol.

You dont need to take him to the doctors at all.

I am an nursery nurse and they should know how to conquer his fear of pooing on the toilet. If not they aint good enough.

Bowel control comes last in most cases as children are 'scared' to poo.

They should be encouraging him. Changing his underwear when he has an 'accident' and not making a big deal of it. They may of been telling him off when he did this - so this maes it worse. They should simply ignore the fact hes pood in his pants, change them, then ask him if he wants to go to the toilet.

I take it he doesnt wear a nappy? That should be a total nono now.

How I wish you were close to me, Id potty tain him for you.

Thank you for your reply, that's really kind.

They are very good at nursery I think I'm just a bit paranoid.

I've just been to Mothercare and bought a new reward chart and padded seat for our toilet. Hopefully, this will start to make a difference.

No, he's not in nappies anymore (saves a fortune!)

I think he just can't sit still long enough/and has always done it standing. Ho hum we'll get there...

poos

my ds is nearly 3 and we're going nowhere fast with the poos and wees. The responses on this thread made me feel a bit better about it all.
