DD (2 and 10 months) has just discovered her bits, and has her hands in her pants all the time. Tell me this is just a phase and that she'll stop of her own accord! What should I do??

Ta all,

Loz

DD2 is the same, she is 4 in June! Just make sure you are washing her hands often!!

L0zza · 16/03/2009 22:57

Omg, I suppose by the time she is 4, it will be like water off a ducks back and I won't care a hoot but at the moment, I am a bit uncomfortable with it! Should I tell her not to do it?

Hi girls start to develop that bit earlyer than boys and when she does this she gets a funny feeling , not being crued by saying that . You cant really tell her not to do it as she will keep doing it more . She isnt doing anything wrong but i know what you mean that it makes you uncomfortable . I went through same thing with mine who is now 12 , just make sure her hands are kept clean and she will stop doing it as much

Don't tell her not to do it - you don't want her getting body issues! I would just remind her to wash her hands when she's been playing like that, and tell her she might make herself sore, and that it's not really polite to do it in public. You can't stop her doing it, and should either IMO, but you can teach her to do it safely and appropriately IYSWIM!

Thanks all, I think I will follow all the advice and also maybe try and steer her towards clothes that don't allow easy access - maybe she'll think it's not worth the trouble ;-) Cheers everyone!

Is this all the time or just when she wants a wee? I think most children go through this phase - my dd who is 8 sleeps with her hand in her pyjamas most nights (the other hand is clutching her cuddly toy with thumb wedged in mouth).

dd (2.7) has just started this on occasions. I have usually ignored and distracted, as I don't want to make a big thing of it and tell her not to do it.
