9 MO screaming in the high chair!

Hi all,
It started about a fortnight ago and DD will scream and cry between mouthfuls of food and drink. She opens wide for food and is still happy to sit there and be distracted by finger food for a small amount of time but after a while just get really annoyed. The only thing that will calm her is taking her out - then she's all smiles!
Then we end up feeding her the rest of her meal on our laps [grrrrr emoticon]
My question is this - has your LO gone through this?
Is it just a phase or should I be prepared to get tough and just leave her in there crying til the end of the meal because she wont be growing out of it??

i bet it is a phase

if she is happy on your knee then let her sit there - no point in her being upset and meals turning into a bit of a battlefield

I (rather unhelpfully) think the opposite to rubyslippers and would practice at home just putting up with the screaming until it stops as we eat out a lot and it would be a pita to have our dd on our laps a lot.

We are going through the same thing with my 10 month old dd and her buggy (back arching and all sorts) - but we have to do the school run so in she goes...

Had the same thing with my D, hated the high chair, would not eat, screamed kicked etc. So, I got a low chair with mini table, genius.

sometimes my LO (10 months) will scream whilst in her high chair, sometimes she won't, if she does I get her out and feed her on the floor because I figure that it is better for her to be happy and eat rather than associate meal times with being upset.

Thats a good point hannahjb - is it all highchairs tetty or just the one at home?

TettyLouBar · 16/03/2009 08:45

Well she started doin it in the supermarket cafe the other day but i'm beginning to think its because shes tired. She's not been sleeping very well recently and naps are all over the place.
I will try the feeding on the floor thing. Never even though of that!

My son screamed in his highchair at about 9-10 months so we fed him in his little bouncy chair type thing. When he outgrew that we tried the highchair again (around 12 months) and he was fine. Now he eats really well in it.
