Ds is 3yrs old, his car seat is fine at the mo but ds2 could possibly do with moving to a new car seat soon. was wondering when we should move him to a booster seat.

They need to be at least 15kg. And you should feel happy with them being in a car seat where they can more easily undo it.

My dd has just moved on from her strapped car-seat to a booster seat because she claimed the straps were too tight but she's four next week. It was an eye-opener to see just how quickly she undid the buckle and moved from her seat once we had parked. I'd stick with the car-seat for now

mmm, that is what i was concerned about, perhaps we'll leave things for a while, thanks

He should be in the 5 point harness until he can't be jammed into it anymore, and his eyes are level with the back of the seat.

Depending on how big he and his seat are, he probably has another year left in it.

So your DS2 will need a seat of his own

5 point harness gives them much better protection keep them in a stage 1 as long as possible IMO

DS is 3yrs 6mth, he is in a Britax Evolva 123, and still uses the 5 point harness. Weight wise he is ok to do without it, but I don't trust him, and will manage with the harness as long as I can.

What about putting him into something like that for the time being? Ds 2 could then have his old seat?

CompareTheMeerkat · 12/03/2009 10:18

When DD was big enough for a Stage 1 seat, I got an Evolva 123 for DS as he still needed to be in a 5 point harness (and I think didn't weigh enough to have the harness not there). I think he was about 4 when I took the harness part off.

DD is 3.5 and in the Stage 1 seat - she will stay in that until she is too heavy/doesn't fit.

Another vote here for the Evolva 123. It will turn into a highback booster once the child reaches 15kgs, though you can keep them harnessed until 18kgs (40lbs), the booster will keep them going until 36kgs.

DD has one and it is excellent. The straps are long, the headrest moves up as the child grows and she is really comfortable in it. She has just turned 4 and will be harnessed in it until she gets to 18kgs.

Only down side of the Evolva 123 are that the shoulder height isn't high enough for tall but light children (dd too tall at 3.5)and the base at the back is very wide so it's really tricky to use in our car as a booster because it's a nightmare to get the adult seat belt done up!
