Does your 2 year old wake up several times a night crying for no apparent reason?

It seems particualarly bad at the moment and with a 7 month old too, I'm not getting much sleep!

I have no idea why she's waking and it seems that the only thing that will calm her is a firm explanation that it's time for sleeping, everything is ok in a very matter of fact voice.

Is anyone else going through this?

Could it be night terrors? Ds has had them a few times - wakes up screaming & appears to be having a tantrum. Quite common at this age especially if they're over-tired. I did a search and there are loads of useful threads in the archives.

My LO was a fantastic sleeper until she hit about 2.4 - then she started waking up in the night, crying or calling out to me and dh. It was incredibly draining (and that's without a 7mo as well) but (touch wood) I think she's over the worst of it and has started sleeping through quite regularly now.

Ooooh - maxpower - how old is your DD now?
I am assuming that it's a phase and it could be night terrors - I am tired and flummoxed!

Yes mine did this for a good few months but seems to have settled down again now (fingers crossed) I had a newborn too although Daddy got up to the 2 year old.

Probably just a phase.

My DD is 2.4 and does this nearly every night, it's getting really wearing, NOONE in the house can get a sleep because she is so loud it reverberates through the whole house!

My 2.6 year old wakes up about twice a night just wanting a quick cuddle (but only from me, not dh!) Goes straight back to sleep. I think he just wakes up alone in the dark and wants a bit of reassurance I'm still about

Yes, my 2.9 yo has done this for a few months too, I'm hoping it will pass soon!

My just 2 year old DD woke the other night, as she didn't resettle within a couple of seconds I went in to her, she rolled over and said "It's alright, just crying"

Though she did then proceed to get up, wee in the potty, gather her soft toys and join us in our bed and kick us until she fell asleep (whereupon she was immediately evicted back to her bed)

My dd suffered terribly with night terrors. Rescue remedy forced into the mouth worked- instantly. She would scream for an hour at a time, eyes open, nothing could reach her, but a few drops of RR- and she lay back down again and went into proper sleep straightaway.
