My 5.3 week old is suffering with colic in the evenings, and is now up 4 times a night, and last night took 3 5oz bottles from 11pm to 6am. Is this too much? Always wind her 2/3 times during each bottle to check its hunger and not wind but she just does big burps and then is ravenous for rest of bottle. Its hungry milk too!
Advice please?
Thanks MNers

Hi
How much is she taking during the day and how big is she?

SleepyCaz · 08/03/2009 08:10

she was 8lb when born and is 10lb 13oz now.

she takes bf and about 3 4oz botts during the day

cries a LOT during the day too. use infacol and have had colief from gp too. always check not hot, cold, wet, dirty etc, but it always ends up being hunger, thats how i ended up mixed feeding.

thx

i would take her off the hungry milk, she is not draining 9 ox bottles every couple of hours, she is not a super hungry baby, that in itself can give a baby a bad stomach ache and make them windy and unsettled.

feed her when she wans feeding and don;t worry about the amount, but definitely try going back to first milk

some babies do have colic, and it is something you have to live through, using a sling to carry her close to you might help, and you at least have your hands free to do stuff!

i was going to suggest that 3 feeds between 11am and 6pm (ie during the day) wouldn't seem so bad and if she isn't feeding so much during the day she is making up for it at night iwswim? but this doesn't seem the case.
agree with lulumama about hungry baby milk - it could be causing more problems than it is solving. Did your HV suggest it?
Sorry about the colic - it truly is horrible. I don't think anyone has a cure just try and get through it best you can.
