Hi i'm a 2nd time round mum , have a girl who is 12 years old and developt very fast , but my 9 month old son has only started rolling to one side , he cant sit on his own , he wont stand if you try to get him to stand , the health visitor said he is floppy , he wont lift anything , only thing he does do really is eat his hands , he does smile and laugh , but lately he has started wanting to sleep all the time , if u do play with him he gets tired very fast , he goes down to bed between 5-6 pm as i cant keep him awake after then , seems to be going back into a 2 month old sleep pattern, he is worrying me now , anyone had the same problems, please let me know , thanks

longagegap sorry i am not much help but can tell you that my ds is almost 8 months and does not sit up and only just rolls over

he too sleeps an awful lot - for example last night he went from 8 pm to 12.30 pm ( yes this afternoon) with only a milk feed at 8 am...

i am not too worried

what did HV say at 8 month check?

longagegap · 07/03/2009 21:01

They dont do an 8 month old check with them anymore were i am , i've to go and see HV on monday as they are worried about him as well , he was at 2 months playing with baby gym and even up till month ago drinking from a cup but now no way , he has had problems with teething , as he has been cross teething since 4 months , think thats reason he keeps eating his hands even though he keeps biting himself

How is his feeding? Would he be getting enough iron?

My ds took until about 10/11 months to sit (on his knees) and at 16 months has only started sitting on his bum this week!

He also slept a lot, from 8pm to 8-10am, up for breakfast and down for a nap about an hour later with another nap in the afternoon.

Your hv should refer you to a ped if you are worried.

Our DS slept LOADS at 8 months. This lasted about a month. He was a bit post viral but that may have been coincidence. Re floppy/not sitting stably, does yours have big head? If so, it's just a balance thing that lots of them have. (Perhaps see doc, not HV - if doc thinks it's a cause for concern, s/he will refer to your hospital for a check.)

Hi thanks everyone for the replys , no he doesnt have a big head , he feeds well never stops eating . Had him at HV yesterday so he has been refered to a child development centre . I'm not so worried about the sittin its more his tirdness ( he didnt sleep much when younger only at night) after 10-20 mins off play he needs to sleep for few hours and him not reaching or playing with things , you could leave him on the couch and he wouldnt move at all . It is if he cant move top of his arms well and when he does he crys and his shoulder blades crack
