Put them in Wellies?

nearly 2 years. but DS didn't start walking until he was 18 months and then it was summer, so we got wellies in the winter after that. They do seem tricky for small children to walk in them at first.

I bought DD (22mths) wellies this Autumn but she just couldn't walk in them. She's still very unsteady on her feet though so I'll wait and see how she progresses before I buy her wellies again. Probably not until she's significantly more confident.

Maybe I should wait then, thanks

I bought DS wellies for the snow a few weeks back - they were a size too big for him but I couldn't get his feet into them properly - he has quite bulky feet and they just wouldn't wiggle down properly. But then, he was only 14mo at the time (walking though).

My DD is 20 months and she's been wearing them all winter.
She's very attached to them and often refuses to wear her shoes because she wants her 'boots'. She's even been known to go to bed in them (as long as she actually goes to bed I don't mind what she wears!)

PeppermintPatty · 07/03/2009 00:10

PS. she's been walking since she was 12 months

My youngest got her first pair in October which would have made her 2.1.

We tried a few cheap pairs on but she found it difficult to walk in them - too heavy/too high, etc, etc.

We eventually got her a pair from Clarkes which she loved (and managed to walk in them perfectly!).

my ds has been walking since he was 9 months old and we bought him wellies in nov when he was 15 months but he struggled a wee bit in them but he walks fine in them now. As long as they dont stop your child bending their knees they'll pick it up soon enough

gigglewitch · 09/03/2009 01:42

mine all had them around 12mo, they were walking before that. serves me right for having all winter babies

Nemoandthefishes · 09/03/2009 02:49

around 12mths as all winter babies and early walkers[8-12mths] although they still live in wellies as they find them easy to put on

Bubbaluv · 09/03/2009 05:10

About 2 weeks (he was 1yo). It then took him about 2 weeks to work it out and no problems since.
No point waiting. So long as you don't take them away then they get it worked out in no time.

DD was walking at 8mo but as yet we have not been able to find a pair of wellies that fit her. (she has tiny, thin feet). We bought her a pair of leather trainers (properly fitted) cheap so that she could splash in puddles and get them mucky. They have been the best footwear she has ever had.

insertwittynicknameHERE · 09/03/2009 05:25

DD is 15mo now BTW.

usernametaken · 09/03/2009 10:43

DD started walking at 8months, she was walking outside at 9months so we got her some winter snow boots- we were living in a very snowy country then so she needed thermal ones for out doors. Because it was so cold (minus 20) she also needed two pairs of woollen socks as well!

HensMum · 09/03/2009 10:46

DS started walking at 13 months and I got him wellies at about 15 months I think.
Took him a while to get used to them but he loves them now. Always wants to wear his "boos" in preference to shoes. He can walk fine in them but climbing is tricky!

maxybrown · 09/03/2009 10:55

My Ds walked at 10 months and had wellies at about 13 months - they were the ones with the pull in bit at the top and he couldn't walk in these at all! Got him normal pair and he was fine! Think maybe it depends really, DS is very very confident on his feet/physically and once I got "normal" wellies could walk/climb etc just as easily.....little monkey.

CompareTheMeerkat · 09/03/2009 10:56

DS walked at 15 months and got wellies at 22 months (started walking in about March and didn't need wellies until about September ish).
