Language development in children - any book recommendations?

I have an 11mo DS and he's just starting to use words, and babbles a lot etc. Anyway, it's got me very interested in how language skills develop. Can anyone recommend a good book to read? I guess I'm looking for something more psychology/linguistics based rather than a parenting type manual (i.e. not so much about how I can encourage him to speak but more about how his brain is developing, how he learns to understand language and communicate etc.)
Thanks!

Bump for you - it's fascinating isn't it? (My two DCs have been quite different so far...)

"Baby talk" by Dr. Sally Ward is quite good at that respect.

"How Babies Think" - can't remember the authors but it's exactly what you're after.

Idea is that babies are like little scientists doing observations on us....
