Wise Mners, I need some advice about my sensitive DD (6)

DD1 has always been a more complex character than DD2. Now I am noticing more and more that whilst DD2's default setting is a happy calm kind of thing, DD1 tends to feel quite sorry for herself, is inclined to believe she is being left out, and views life in quite a pessimistic way.

What can I do to help her develop a more positive outlook? Needless to say both are gorgeous!

I must say that it worries me because my Mum has suffered terribly from depression over the years, and I have had a couple of bouts of it too. Am I being pessimistic myself in visualising a dreadfully unhappy future for her?! I suppose I'm not sure I have the "feelgood" equipment myself.

Hi - you could also have written about my DD1 who is also 6. She is lovely, imaginative, creative, kind, makes friends easily but is also a worrier, lacking in confidence, tends to view normal everyday occurences as negatively directed to her (examples would be: she's not a fast runner so therefore thinks that every time they play running around games at school as a personal attack on her; or in a soft play place the other day she got pushed over by boisterous children - to her they deliberately and meanly pushed her over). She also has a tendency to always want the best so will want the pink cup and give DD2 the green one, or will examine fairy cakes for the one with the most icing and give DD2 the other one. So in summary I have a sensitive, sociable, sulky girl who basically thinks she's the centre of the universe and everyone's out to get her!!

They've suggested she joins the nurture group at school which I think would be good. I've also got the Highly Sensitive Child book and am working my way through it. I am generally happy go-lucky but do have a tendency to over-analyse and read too much into situations. She's just a little more extreme.

DD2's pregnancy was FAR more stressful due to an earlier miscarriage and markers for down's spotted in scans but she is a completely different character and brushes off a lot of things that would make DD1 cry. She is only 2.5 though.

Not giving any advice I know - sorry!

Thanks for the link to the bach flower remedy site ... just ordered a blended spray for DD1 and one for me too. Happy times are here again

wishingchair - please keep us updated on the results for the blended bach flower remedies. I hope it works then I will follow suit! Have a suspicion though that any benefit will be a psychological one of suggestion (can you tell I'm a glass half-empty person?)
