When do I put baby in with toddler?

My second DD is 10 weeks and will be sleeping in same room as her sister ( 19 months). Any advice on when to do this?
Am worried about baby waking toddler or me waking her as I am in and out to baby in night? Thanks

I have a similar age gap (15 months) and at 9 months dd2 is still up at least once if not twice int he night and is really loud when she cries, so we still haven't dared put them in together... look forward to seeing what other people think.

Not 2 days before dd2 gets chicken pox and gastoenteritis at the same time would be my advice.

Not going well here at 3.5 and 1.4 ... giving up on the time with just one in the morning when they wake up at different times is so hard. No problems with DD2 waking DD1 really and we just drag her in with us if she won't settle. I don't even try bedtime in the same room though. DD2 goes in the cot and DD1 in our bed, then we move her later.

A lot of my friends have enjoyed better success .... ironically often those doing it through choice rather than necessity.

Lol AccidentalMum - dd1 currently has chicken pox and so we're waiting for dd2 to get it, totally agree that I'm glad they're not in the same room just now!

Gah, will we ever be able to do it?!

We put DD in with DS when DD was about 12 weeks (out of choice). DS was 2.5. It worked very well. DS generally slept through regardless of DD's wakings and he didn't disturb DD too much. They still share now (DS is 6 and DD almost 4). They have very much got used to being together and take comfort from having each other around. They seem to have an amazing capability to shut out each other's noise (wish I had it!).

When new baby arrives, I'm planning on putting him in with DD at about 12 weeks again and giving DS1 his own room.

I think it's lovely to have siblings sharing. There will of course will be some difficult nights and I admit that we are probably more likely to take one of the DCs into our bed if being particularly troublesome so as not to wake the other, but on the whole, I think the benefits of having them together far outweigh any negative issues. Hearing the two of them chattering/bickering in the morning is hilarious!
