I was very worried about my daughters lack of verbal language, so much so that I did speak to a HV about it when she was 26 months old. Of course the moment I did this she started picking up words by the hour.

So I am amazed when 2.6 year old DD comes out with new words..today we had an entire sentence...her first proper sentence !!!

I was teasing her about her hurt thumb, kissing her foot, arm and she pushed her thumb into my face and clearly said "This one right there."

I am so proud of her

Oh that's lovely. I know how you feel - DD is the same age and we have already had a speech therapy assessment. Though she has lots of words and seems to be coming out with something new everyday, she's yet put anything beyond 'bye-bye mummy' together (i.e no 2 or more word sentences). It is so hard not to compare her with her peers and younger ones who have been speaking in sentences for ages but I know it will come in time.

That's brilliant! I also know how you feel DD1 is 2.4 yrs and had a speech assesment on Monday - and the little monkey started putting two words together for the SALT - made me look a complete fraud It is really hard not to compare them with their peers and get worried by HVs and devolpmental charts etc.

TBH she has always made herself understood with single words, pointing and a dozen BSL signs we introduced when she was a baby.

But yes, it is difficult to listen to everyone elses same aged children talk in complete grammatically correct sentences and your child doesn't.

However she is very good physically, running, dancing, climbing...little monkey !!! So I reckon all her energy is directed to moving not talking
