weight gain and growth spurt

My nearly 11 yr old daughter has recently put on quite a bit of weight in a very short time and someone says that this could be because she is due to have a growth spurt. Does anyone know if this could be a possible cause? She is extremely active and eats healthily so I will be very surprised if it is diet related. She is quite small for her age and has grown only very slightly over the last couple of years.

Many thanks for your insight.

My DD is 11.5 and had quite a big growth spurt this year. She has gone from average height to one of the tallest in the class. She is 5'2 now, same height as me.
I didn't really see her put on weight, she has always been thin but now she is curvy and thin and has boobs. Also started her periods 2 weeks ago.

Should say she is Year 6 in primary not secondary school

Gosh, she sounds far more grown up than my daughter! I think mine is quite a long way off puberty but I was thinking she was due to grow a bit!

My dd started puberty at 10. Not that unusual.

Not unusual, no, but probably unlikely in a child who is not yet 4ft 6 and weighs little more than four stone!

I was more interested to know if her sudden weight gain may becuase she was about to grow an inch or two, not develop boobs!!
