How do I deal with this? I could just ignore it, but is that just condoning it? It's making me ...

have you tried ignoring? did that make it worse or better?

Failing that I would naughty step for it with a no warning (I normally warn, then 1,2,3) same as I would for hitting... Doing that, knowing my DS, I would anticipate it to get worse at first whilst he makes sure I mean business and then tail off when he realises it's getting no where.

I would also after he came off the mat make him clear it up and apologise.

Ignoring is an action in itself, so by ignoring it you are not condoning IYSWIM

Turn your back, walk away, remove eye contact, make a cup of tea.

It's all about attention at this age, and he has v cleverly found a way to press your buttons

Turn it around with praise for what he is doing that you want to encourage, lots of positive attention, engage him in activities, dont expect to change overnight.

You need to change your reaction to him in order to change his behaviour.

Good luck

Thank you.

I tried the naughty step 6 months ago and it didn't work (and I didn't have time to make it work, having just had a baby) and I was thinking just the other day if I should try it again.

I've tried not reacting to it so far, apart from when he spat on teh sofa today (I got no sleep last night and was in no mood!) so will play it by ear and see how the next few days go. Cheers again!
