Is it normal for 15 mth DS to be TOTALLY obsessed with one thing, namely buckles?

My DS has always been into the usual things that babies aren't meant to have like mobile phones, remote controls, cameras etc but he has recently developed an obsession with buckles! He has always like them but now he is throwing total wobblers if he can't play with his pram buckles! We went swimming today and I sat him in his pram while I got ready and he played with the loose buckles and when I took him out of the pram, OMG he let out the biggest wails ever! The moment he gets the buckles again he is totally fine, then wails again when he can't get them.

I took the pramseat bit off his main pram at home and he happliy played with the buckles for ages on the floor then he got bored after about 20 minutes, but he can play with his pram buckles for prob at least half an hour or more! I'm sure it's just one of those things all babies go through but just wanted to see if you think it's 'normal'????

He also plays with other things too BTW as in his 'proper' baby toys, but none of them get a look in if the buckles are about.

Totally normal, with DD1 it was washing machines - we even used to walk past the toy aisle to go and look at the washing machines at that age. By 2, she had her own copy of the argos catalogue so she could look them up whenever she wanted, and she just used to sit in front of ours and watch it go round for ages at a time. By 2, she could differentiate between a washing machine and a tumble drier, don't know how she knew, she just did. It was an utter obsession. Now is she 5, she is almost normal

yep my dd was into the straps and buckles on her buggy and carseat in a big way. She is now 3.5 and much more into barbie and colouring LOL

we used to go to toddler group and she would stand by the buggy staring at and playing with her buckles the whole time we were there

Buckles are good.

I have had to buy my son a loo brush to stop him trying to play with the ones that are in use. Unfortunately my cleaner found it in his play pen and had a bit of a hinny fit .

here it's empty plastic bottles. Or tubes of cream, or my roll on deodorant for some unknown reason. He is relentless in his pursuit of such things, I hope it all wears off soon!

God I wish mine liked buckles - here it's carrier bags!! And also mugs of hot tea. Take a carrier bag off him though and he has a proper little strop.

My 14m old DS has always loved wheels. On anything - at playgroup there is a trail of disguarded and upturned toy prams and walkers where he has tipped them up to spin the wheels. He loves car wheels, and when we visited a farm the other week he was in heaven hugging the tractor wheel!

DS2 is obsessed with hats and helmets - has been since 15 months. He does look slightly odd walking down the highstreet in with an adult size construction helmet on - but I say, whatever floats your boat! This week it's bike helmets.
He's developed a related obsession with motorbikes and loves nothing better than to flick through a motorcycle magazine looking at the different helmets.

My 16 month old DS is all about lids; pen lids, bottle lids; tooth paste lids ... any kind of lid really.

He will sit there pushing the lid on and then carefully taking it off again, clapping his fat little hands with glee each time.

He really likes the fridge too.

Mine is now nearly 2.5 and when she was a baby (younger!) she was really fascinated with the tags on clothes and her blankets, no interest in toys whatsoever. She has grownout of it ckily. i was tempted to make a blankie out of tags but I resisted!! i think you can buy those!

tryingtobemarypoppins, you reminded me of DD liking switches. My brother is an electrician and we had to get him to but a board together with all sort of switches on it. Light switches, plug sockets. DD will play for hours with it bless her. It's the thing we bring out when she get bored and we are busy lol

DS at that age was completely obsessed with plastic milk bottles. He always had to have two - one in each hand. And he went bananas if he saw you trying to throw one away. He had a lovely toy box full of toys and then a huge cardboard box of plastic bottles - and it was always the rubbish heap that got the look in! Every photo for about 6 months has DS complete with milk bottles

So normal!
