im currnetly 6months preg with my third. my DS2 is still in his cot which obviously we will eventually need for baby no.3. We have a moses basket to start with but by the time we will need the cot DS2 will be about 2 1/2 yrs.
I know each kid is different but is this too young to put in a big bed? im sure we moved DS1 to a big bed about the same time tho. And obviously I dont want too much 'change' for DS2 all together with the new one.
ny suggestions?

No. DD went into one at asimilar age/few months younger abd both DSs were in beds by 2.10

CatchaStar · 13/02/2009 13:21

Uhhh, no.

Dd had to be put into a proper bed when she was 16/17 months old as she threw herself out of her cot. She's absolutley fine in it, always has been.

Just do it when you think your ds is ready.

Iklboo · 13/02/2009 13:22

Ds was in a big boys bed before he 2, with a bed rail. Happened as a necessity cos the cot we'd booked for him on holiday was too small. He loved it from day 1

nailpolish · 13/02/2009 13:23

i oput dd1 in a single bed at 18mths

Thanks thats reassuring... I mentioned it to someone the other day and they gave me a disaproving look so it just got me wondering.
hes going into big brothers room within the next week we DH just has to paint it 1st. so might try the big bed before baby no3 is born then its not too much change for him.
Def put my mind at rest thanx

As I always say on threads like this, mine both went straight from a moses basket to a futon - no cot stage at all. Worked really well.

my dd went into a big bed on her first birthday, ready for ds arrival 2 weeks later, we never had any problems.

caykon · 13/02/2009 13:39

come to think of it ds is only coming up 2 and he has been in a bed since we moved house, to save moving the cot so he was only 12 - 13 months at the time, again no problems

mybabywakesupsinging · 13/02/2009 22:54

ds1 moved when we moved house (2.5). he got a thomas the tank engine duvet cover and strangely there were no complaints! He had a bed side for 6 months or so, though

TeenyTinyToria · 13/02/2009 23:07

cat64 - here you go!

Ds is going into his own bed soon, he will be 2 in March.

Dior · 13/02/2009 23:08

My ds was around that age when he went into a proper bed.

MrsPurple · 13/02/2009 23:20

my DD went into big bed at 19 months, absolutely loved it and started sleeping through the night again (after becoming unsettled at 15 months)

mel1981 · 14/02/2009 16:57

Im hoping that mite help my 'unsettled' DS2 as well and being like big brother is usually a good start with him.

DS was in big boy bed on his 2nd birthday (with bed rail) no probs really....except he always woke in the cot at 5 am and chatted for fews mins then back to sleep, however when in bed he was able to get out of bed and stayed up!!!
We had 1 1/2 years of up at 5 am.....will not make same mistake with Dd....will put her back until she stays there..the super nanny approach!!!

mel1981 · 15/02/2009 20:49

I know wot u mean babyinarms- my DS2 wakes at 5am every morning and thats the 1 thing im dreading when hes in his bed! gotta buy a stair gate for their room before he goes in his big bed! NOt that big brother will like that

DD went into a toddler bed at the age of 18m and it was fine.

serin · 15/02/2009 21:31

My 10month old was in a bed as he kept climbing out of the cot. Following risk assessment (!) we saw it as the lesser of two evils. Mind you we did take the mattress off the bed base so that if he did fall he wouldn't have much of a drop!

Reesie · 15/02/2009 22:21

My dd went into a double bed on her own since she was 18 months.

nannyjo · 15/02/2009 22:24

My DS went into a bed with the safety side on at 16 months!!! Early I know but needed the cot for No3. He was fine tho, he started to get out after a few weeks but we put him in a growbag and has never done it since. :-)

Bubbaloo · 15/02/2009 22:28

No,I don't think it's too young but it also depend's alot on the child.
Ds1 was in a big bed at 17 months(and absolutely fine with it)as I wanted the cot for ds2,and now ds2 is 21 months and a long way off going into a big bed and would imagine he'll still be in his cot til the end of the year.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/02/2009 09:47

2.5 is a great age to put into a bed

i normally move children at about 2, as generally they dont reliese they can get out of bed

always put up a bed guard and def a good idea to move into a big boy bed before baby comes

GooseyLoosey · 16/02/2009 09:48

No - did it at 2 with both of mine and never had any problems.

bubblagirl · 16/02/2009 09:53

my ds was in a big bed at 19 mths
