My DS, aged 1, thinks it's hilarious to bite....

and pinch. It's really my DP'S fault as when DS started doing it, a few mths ago, he would shout 'ow' loudly, but in a jokey way so clearly DS thinks its a game. I have tried ignoring it but it is quite hard when it bloody hurts. I've also tried saying 'NO' firmly and putting him down. Will he just grow out of it do you think? DS grins while pinching and watches the victims face for a reaction. Mainly its just me and DP he does it too. Luckily he's not attempted this on another child thus far.

It is a reaction thing and he should grow out of it - my DD started doing it exactly the same way, getting a jokey ow laugh the first time and then a cross reaction - and watched for any reaction! We tried to ignore it and it mostly went away (until we had baby No.2 - it came back because she tried doing it to her baby sister and the reactions from me were even worse

She stopped doing it to baby sister at least, but does do it every now and then to me, especially when I'm feeding DD No.2 to get attention...

Thanks for replying! Hopefully he will grow out of it then. How old is DD now she only does it occassionally?

My ds (13 months) also loves biting too. DD (4) never bit, so I wonder if it's a personality thing as well (ie not sure you should blame yourselves for encouraging). At present I just say 'No' firmly and try to distract, but at this stage not sure how much impact it has.

She's 21m now, baby sister of 4m so it started up again after a few weeks of new baby staying put, but only now does it when v. tired or overexcited. Good luck!
