DD is 19 months and can sit herslef down at the top and push herself off but as she goes down she leans/falls backwards and bangs her head on the slide.
We have been lying her on her tummy feet first and sending her down which she loves but she can't get herself in this position to go down.
She has started to go to soft play and in the baby/toddler section it is very small and not really meant for adults to go through with them and she can't do the slide bit on her own, all the other kids seem to do it fine without banging their heads.
can we teach her? or are the other children older? or is she just crap at slides {grin}

15m for DD - I do think slides are hard to master, they just have to watch lots of other kids before they get the hang of it...

maybe by lying her on her tummy we have stopped her learning how to sit up on them?

so you are sending her down backwards on tummy feet first?
I would try her the "proper" way and keep saying "lean back" it kind of sends them down and keeps them from toppling over iyswim....

yes we are sending her down on her tummy as she kept hitting her head going forwards. she can lie on her back and go down too. its just sitting up she always falls back.
is it just practice?

just try to get her to lean back like I said whilst she goes down and she won't fall. But they have to see other kids and really want to do it...

I assume it's practice. DD has been able to do it for several months so probaly around 15 months but before that she used to fall backwards.

ilovetochat · 11/02/2009 21:29

i think she needs to slow down a bit but shge won't, she kind of runs to the top of the slide at soft play, skids onto her bum and launches herslef down then whacks her head, nutter

For my children the time of year played a huge part. dd1 was able to use 5ft high slides (and probably higher) at 1yr. dd2 still can't at 16 months.
dd1 is a summer baby and dd2 a winter baby - dd2 has had far less experience as we haven't spent hours and hours and hours playing out in the garden like dd1 did.
