I take ds to a couple of groups that he usually enjoys, a music one and a sporty one where they run around and throw balls etc. For the last month he's been really weird about them - suddenly very clingy, a bit tearful, but mostly just stroppy:

Me: "Let's run now" (all the kids run across the hall)
Ds: NO! I WILL NOT RUN! I will WALK! (murderous look, walks slowly along or stands there).
Refuses to stand/sit or anything as requested.

Or at the music group we'll sing a song and at the end he'll go "NO! I don't WANT that!" Or "NO! It's NOT wind the bobbin up, it's wind the [insert random word here - giraffe, book, grass, etc] up!" (bursts into tears)

At home he is fairly contrary in a toddler kind of way but not like this... I'm a bit sad about it as he used to really enjoy these things and have a laugh.

So is this a phase? Or have I done something wrong?! He has a cold but is otherwise well.

I'd say a phase

I have a 2.5yr old too

Likewise would say it is a phase.

I have a 2.5 yr old DD and am questioning whether to continue with swimming and tumbletots as she appears to want to do her own thing in her own way, regardless of the structure of the class. Am hoping it wears off soon.
