SOLOveMeTenderLoveMeDo · 09/02/2009 15:18

You know, my Dd stopped eating when she got hand foot and mouth. Have you checked in his mouth for teeth/sores/ulcers etc?

DS went through this at about 18mths. Didn't last long. Long enough for me to be owrried about it though! It's just a phase . . .

pollywollywoowah · 09/02/2009 21:06

Tonsils?

My little boy does this basically they will take a bite of food if they like the initial taste and texture, however as they chew if they don't like the texture as it changes or if after chewing they get a bit bored and the food is not yet smooth enough to swallow, they spit it out. As they get older the range of textures amount of chewing they will tolerate increases. It is very frustrating but basically is a natural reaction to prevent choking.

My 13MO son is doing this also and will only swallow yogurt and some meats… it seems like he wants to swallow or enjoys the taste.. when he actually swallows - he shakes his head and pulls a face like it’s sour (almost like it is sensitive to swallow) … I’m waiting for a ENT appointment for possibility of tonsil issues but anyone else experienced this ??? Or have advise ??? He is eating barely anything and is still on formula because I’m worried he will become malnutritioned
